Service Description

This five week course covers any question you could possibly have about making a low-mid 5-figure feature film. CLASS 1: Writing + Story Development w/ Budget In Mind CLASS 2: Legal/Logistics Union Concerns, LLC Considerations, Insurance, Workers Comp, Housing, Financing CLASS 3: Directing/Producing Your Shoot Casting Options, Locations, Food, Scheduling, Production docs, See our entire budget CLASS 4: Post Production w/ Budget In Mind (Post Production on a Budget - see dailies, our edit, creative post choices, and discuss inexpensive licensing options for: footage, SFX, GFX, and music.) CLASS 5: Festival Strategy and Distribution Festival Strategy and How To Sell Your Feature OR Self-Distribute for TVOD, SVOD, and AVOD. I believe deeply that DIY microbudget feature filmmaking is the future of our industry, with filmmakers like Lena Dunham, Cooper Raiff, and the Duplass Brothers launching their careers this way, and having shepherded my film from the blank page to Blu-ray, I've learned more than I ever could imagined. Having done it myself, this is kind of course I wish I could've taken before I jumped in the deep end. We'll discuss production stuff, like what kind of grip/electric essentials to rent on a budget, but we'll also discuss weird specifics that you'd never learn in film school: like how explore a SAG signatory contract that creates space for union actors to participate in your project outside of their ULB scale minimums. I'll even provide you with dozens of neutralized agreements, contracts, and documents to provide a foundation to start prepping your film from a legal, safety, and sales perspective, so you're armed to legally negotiate with a distributor once you reach the finish line. Here are some thoughts from my former students.
